Today’s events are heartbreaking.
News of Charlie Kirk’s murder has understandably shaken many people — regardless of personal beliefs or political leanings. At our center, we hold space for the grief, fear, anger, and confusion that can arise after violence like this.
Moments like these can activate past trauma, challenge our sense of safety, and leave us feeling powerless. You are not alone if you notice heightened emotions, anxiety, or even numbness in response.
Our gentle reminders during times of collective trauma:
• Pause and breathe. Slow, intentional breathing can calm the nervous system when emotions feel overwhelming.
• Limit exposure to distressing coverage. It’s okay to step away from the news and social media to protect your mental health.
• Connect with safe people. Talk with someone who can listen without judgment — a friend, family member, therapist, or support group.
• Ground in the present. Small acts like walking outside, journaling, or naming five things you can see right now can help you feel steady.
• Honor your feelings. There is no “right” way to process tragedy. Whether you feel anger, sadness, fear, or confusion — your emotions are valid.
We are committed to holding space for compassion, reflection, and healing — for everyone, no matter where you stand politically. Violence impacts entire communities, and together we can work toward safety and understanding.
If you are struggling and need additional support, please know we are here for you.
